Wednesday Morning Communion

Two Female Students at the Wednesday Morning Communion Breakfast

“Wednesday morning offers an energetically presented liturgy, stimulating speakers, food prepared with care…definitely worth getting up early for.  The spiritual highlight of my week.”

Ever had wine before breakfast? Gather with other students at 7:30am for a brief and lively service of Holy Communion (with music and speaker). We usually feature speakers who teach or study at Queen’s and who help us to make connections between the Queen’s experience and the Christian life.

The service is finished by 8am, and people gather in our parish hall for a sit down breakfast of hot porridge, delicious home-baked muffins, fresh frui

Sunday Bible Study

Our Bible Study for University and College Students takes place every second Sunday morning in Val’s office at St. James’ starting at 9:30. It is a time of good food, lively fellowship and deep discussions. Dates for the Bible Study are:  October 20th, November 3rd, November 17th and December 1st.

Please join us!

“The community of people at St. James’ have been welcoming and supportive beyond any expectations, and they will never know the impact they have had on my life.  I felt welcome at St. James’, from the first time I walked through its Union Street doors to the last service attended”

Spiritual Care

Val Michaelson, Chaplain

Val Michaelson has been our chaplain for the past 12 years.  If you are looking for some guidance, encouragement, prayer, some theological discussion, some help navigating your time at Queen’s….. or just a place to come and chat, Val would love to meet with you.  She has a huge supply of tea and hot beverages in her office at the church (these are in especially high demand during exams!) and she also has an amazing library of the humanities and theology and would love to talk about books.  She is very excited about The Hobbit movie being released in December as she is a huge JRR Tolkien fan (and she hopes Peter Jackson does a good job with it and doesn’t mess with the book!!!!)  You can bet we’ll be talking about the Hobbit a bit throughout the term, before the movie release.  Val has worked out of St. James’ for the past 12 years and loves the Queen’s campus (although she admits that she did her undergrad at Queen’s arch rival, McGill).  She did her Master’s at Regent College in Vancouver, and is an ordained Anglican Priest.  She is currently working on  a Doctorate degree at the University of Toronto.

Student Leadership

At St. James’, we believe in investing in students as leaders and we are delighted that many students are involved in many different areas in the life of our church. This includes as Children’s Ministry leaders, music leaders, coffee hour hosts, technology leaders, greeters, readers and more! One big area of leadership we invest in is our student internship program. This is a program that lasts the full academic year, and which invites students to develop their God-given gifts while at the same time, investing in the youth of our parish. Over the years, we have been blessed with many incredible interns. You can learn more about the program below, click over to the 2012-2013 Interns more about the team this year, or apply to join the intern team (PDF).

Do you want to make a huge difference in God’s Kingdom? Mentor young people? Share the love of Christ in new ways? Get great bible teaching experience? Participate fully in the intergenerational family of St. James’?

This may be for you!
