FEBRUARY 10
Music on Union presents Valery Lloyd-Watts (Piano) and Chris Alfano
(Clarinet) in concert on Friday 10 February from 5:15pm to 6:15pm. The
program is entitled “Robert Schumann and Johannes Brahms: The Two
Geniuses Who Both Loved Clara Schumann”. This is the first of three
Friday concerts through 24 February in support of the St James pipe
organ restoration. A freewill offering will be collected.

History tells of the love that both Robert Schumann and Johannes Brahms
felt towards Clara Schumann. Schumanns’ Fantasiestucke, Op. 73 and
Brahms’ Clarinet Sonata, Op.120, No.2 were written nearly 50 years apart
and yet each is an example of deeply Romantic music which typically
deals with love and longing.

FEBRUARY 17
Music on Union presents Organist Michael Capon in concert on Friday 17
February from 5:15pm to 6:15pm. On the program will be works by J.S.
Bach, Louis-Nicolas Clérambault, Felix Mendelssohn, Frederick Karam, and
Gerald Bales. This is the second of three Friday concerts through 24
February in support of the St James pipe organ restoration. A freewill
offering will be collected.

A graduate of McGill University and first prize winner in the John Robb
Organ Playing Competition, Michael Capon is active in Kingston as a
performer, conductor, composer, and teacher, and serves as Music
Director at St James Church and harpsichordist for the Kingston Baroque
Consort and the Melos Choir and Period Instruments ensemble. He has
performed solo and collaboratively, directed and composed music for
theatrical productions, directed community choirs and orchestras, taught
organ and music theory students, and adjudicated at music festivals and
competitions.

FEBRUARY 24
Music on Union presents the Accord Trio in concert on Friday 24 February
from 5:15pm to 6:15pm. Doug Handforth (Violin, Viola), Jennifer Timdale
(Cello), and Fran Harkness (Piano) will perform a program optimistically
entitled “Anticipation of Spring”. This is the third of three Friday
concerts in support of the St James pipe organ restoration. A freewill
offering will be collected.

The program will be a mixture of music suggesting romance, memories, and
the nascent emotions and feelings associated with anticipation of love
and Spring. There will be a premier performance of a work recently
composed for Organ and Viola by Dr. David Cameron, various unique
offerings for cello and viola, and there may even be a piece by the Beatles!
