Journeying together in Christ

Mr. Charles Walker

Charles Walker is a native of Rochester, New York, where as a high school student he first studied organ at the Eastman School of Music. He attended Houghton College, graduating with a degree in organ and voice. In 1964, Charlie moved to Canada to teach in a private school and begin a church music career in Toronto. While there, he studied plainsong and liturgy at St. Michael’s Choir School, sang in the Toronto Mendelssohn Choir, and spent a year in seminary at Wycliffe College, where he explored the possibility of becoming an Anglican priest. In 1973 he received an Associateship Diploma in Organ Performance from the Royal Conservatory of Toronto, and later on pursued graduate studies at the American Conservatory of Music in Chicago. Charlie has worked as organist, recitalist and choir director in a variety of churches over the years, during which time he has also taught many piano, organ, voice, and music theory students.
Charlie’s wife, Wendy Luella Perkins, is an ordained Unitarian Universalist minister; she also is founder of Soulful Singing, a program of music meditation groups which have met regularly in Kingston since 2002. Charlie has two children: Jeremy, a computer software engineer and stained glass designer; and Monika, a writer, editor, and Yoga/Reiki instructor.
